When a new baby is coming I see everyone focusing on the baby, and the story of the mother is lost in the excitement. However, just as the mother is about to give birth to her new child, she is also giving birth to a new version of herself. I love to come alongside women in this huge life transition and tell THEIR story. I want to create a safe space to process all of the deep emotions that emerge during pregnancy and birth.

There is a ceremony in Mexican tradition called Closing the Bones. It is said that during pregnancy the aura of a woman undertakes an extreme opening in order to accommodate the life and soul of the baby to be birthed through her. Birth itself is the moment of greatest expansion of the vibrational field in all its planes; physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. The Closing the Bones ceremony, performed during the postpartum period, honors the expansion and gently offers closure to the new mother as she returns to her center and integrates her personal transformation to motherhood. -Juliet Allen

The Closing of the Bones ceremony points to a deep spiritual truth. We need ritual and ceremony to help us process life’s transitions. These are absent from our culture and I think they are absolutely crucial to help support mothers. I long to create ceremonial spaces for mothers and document them with the art of photography. Let’s co-create together!
