What to wear to your photo session

The outfits you wear to your photo session are very important. They will create the mood of the photos and it’s important to put some forethought into what you bring. You can bring 2-3 outfit changes to the shoot. You can just carry them in a tote bag or on hangers to the location. If we are shooting near water don’t forget a towel!

In general I recommend solid fabrics that are lightweight and flowy. I love sheer fabric as well, I often shoot with a simple cream sheet curtain panel, especially in the water. The more simple the better.

Flowing Fabric

I love flowy dresses because they show movement. To me movement is a visual representation of freedom, which is something my photoshoots embody. I have found Free People has the best selection of flowy fabrics.

Sheer

If you want to go super sheer I think it’s gorgeous and makes a dramatic statement of you are shooting in the water.

Edgy

If you want to do more of an edgy look fishnets, leather or vintage Levi’s jean  jackets, and boots are fun. These look especially interesting with the juxtaposition of being in a nature setting.

Above all the most important thing is that you feel beautiful and comfortable on your shoot. The clothes are an extension of your personality and style so wear something that feels authentic and makes you embody confidence.

Makeup

I recommend natural makeup. I like to make my photography subjects look like they are part of the nature we are shooting in, so to blend in I would avoid really dramatic heavy makeup. I say stick with lighter natural tones. Definitely wear some foundation and concealer at the least. And waterproof mascara is a good idea since I often shoot in water.
