Writing prompts mOtherhood
I’m so excited to craft your beautiful Photo Memoir Book that can be kept as a family heirloom for generations! This book will serve as an anchor for you to return to again and again when you need to remember you are a goddess. The transition we go through when we bring a child into the world is so life changing. This is a safe space to process all the emotions and channel the energy into creativity. Part of the power of telling your story is combining the images we create with your own words or favorite quotes you have. You can use the journal prompts below as a starting point. Put all the writing in a google document and share it with me when you’re ready and I will start creating the first proof of your book to send you for your approval.
-What does it mean to be a mother?
-When did you become a mother?
-What made you a mother?
-When did motherhood forever change you?
-I became a mother when...
-Share the story of how your child’s name came to be. Why was it chosen? Was it easy or hard to choose? Does the name honor something or someone special?
-Describe how it felt when you realized you were pregnant. What were you in the middle of? What did you want one more day week month year for?
-I chose to become a mother because
-The best choice I made as a mother was…
-What are my hopes and dreams for my baby?

-If I could teach my child one thing it would be…
-What have a felt during my transition into motherhood about my body, my heart, my mind, my soul?
There’s no right or wrong way to tell your story. Use whatever medium calls you in the moment: paint, collage, poetry, video journal, voice memos, vstream of consciousness journaling, bullet points, or memoir-style writing. This is just your “shitty first draft,” as Anne Lammott says. The most important thing is that you begin.
Some of these prompts were taken from my program with my sister Kirsten Incorvaia, "She's Dancing Again" and from Jackie Leonard’s @Motherscope account.
