Writing promPts
I’m so excited to craft your beautiful Photo Memoir Book that can be kept as a family heirloom for generations! This book will serve as an anchor for you to return to again and again when you need to remember you are a goddess. Part of the power of telling your story is combining the images we create with your own words or favorite quotes you have. You can use the journal prompts below as a starting point. Put all the writing in a google document and share it with me when you’re ready and I will start creating the first proof of your book to send you for your approval.
-Can I relate to the woman staring back at me?
-How have these photos changed my identity and self image?
For Shoots in Water
Water is the element of cleansing, supporting, nourishing, rejuvenating, and renewing. Use these journal prompts to explore the next part of your story:
-How do you want to call on the element of water to cleanse any old ash or residue?
-Imagine yourself floating on your back in a still, warm body of water. Notice how you feel completely supported and held. What supports do you have in your life today that make you feel this way?
-What are the waters of nourishment in your life today, and how can you amplify them? (people, places, activities, practices etc.)
-As you fill your vessel with pure, cleansing, nourishing water, what will be rejuvenated in your spirit? In your life?
-Imagine committing yourself to 30 days of pouring new life into yourself until you are so full that your vessel overflows. What will be renewed in your mind, body and spirit? What will be healed and renewed in your community?
In the next week, take some time to sit with your story of Rising from the Ashes. Start by creating space for your story: a fresh journal or new file on your device of choice. build on your story each time you journal and by the end, you will have a complete writing piece to go with your self portraits.
There’s no right or wrong way to tell your story. Use whatever medium calls you in the moment: paint, collage, poetry, video journal, voice memos, vstream of consciousness journaling, bullet points, or memoir-style writing. This is just your “shitty first draft,” as Anne Lammott says. The most important thing is that you begin.
Some of these prompts were taken from my program with my sister Kirsten Incorvaia, "She's Dancing Again"
